FAT LOSS MYTHS! You might have heard me talk about this before, but I want to debunk the myths as they continue to pop up, I hear them time and time again! I want to clear these up TODAY!! Then you can focus on the things that will really make a difference to your body shape!
❌ IN ORDER TO LOSE WEIGHT YOU NEED TO CUT FAT FROM YOUR DIET‼
Yes, it is true that food containing fat is higher in calories – there are 9 calories per gram of fat compared to 4 calories per gram of protein or carbs. Fat alone does not cause weight gain. Being in a calorie surplus does, however. Try to include more exercise into your lifestyle to counteract your calorie intake. And besides, you do need some healthy fats in your diet. Nuts, avocados, and oily fish are all good for you.
❌ TO LOSE WEIGHT YOU MUST AVOID CARBS‼
Carbs are an essential macro-nutrient that your body needs for energy. Sure, cutting them out and not replacing them with another food group can help you to lose weight. As this will put you in a calorie deficit. But it’s the calorie deficit that is making you lose weight, not the lack of carbs!
❌ LOSING WEIGHT IS A LINEAR PROCESS
We would all love to see our weight measured on the scales going neatly down week on week, but in fact, our measured weight can fluctuate according to how much food we have in our digestive system and the amount of water we are retaining at that time. Women, in particular, fluctuate in water weight according to their monthly menstrual cycles. This is why weighing yourself on a scale may not give you a true indication of your progress. Soo, a better way to judge your weight loss is according to how well your clothes fit, and by measuring yourself with a tape measure. Taking and comparing full-length and side profile photos are also a great judgment of weight loss, especially week on week, and can be a great motivator to keep on going!!
❌ EATING BREAKFAST IS ESSENTIAL FOR LOSING WEIGHT‼
The best thing to do is to eat when you are hungry, and stop when you are full! Whether you have breakfast or not, doesn’t directly impact your weight! Fat loss is all about calorie consumption versus calorie expenditure! If you consume too many calories and don’t exercise enough you will gain body fat!
❌ YOU CAN TARGET AN AREA OF YOUR BODY FOR FAT LOSS❗
You can’t choose which part of your body you drop fat from! When you drop body fat, your body decides where it will burn the fat from. The best thing to do is to stay consistent with your training and nutrition. Eventually, you will lose body fat from the part of your body you like the least!
You can, however, target body parts for muscle growth ?
